Port Moody History  
Newport village is located in Port Moody, a community that offers all the amenities of big city life harnessed to pristine nature and nestled in the majesty of the mountains. There isn't a more vibrant, beautiful and welcoming destination anywhere.

Rarely, if ever, does a community combine the pleasant surroundings of suburban life with all the amenities requires by business to facilitate economic activity.

Port Moody with an estimated population of 24,000 curls around teh end of the Burrard Inlet and sweeps up the mountains on either side of the inlet. Port Moody is the 'city of the arts' and boasts many galleries, artisans and cultural festivals. It has a mountain village feel to it while offering a range of residential choices, and Olympic sized rink, a brand new Recreation facilitiy plus reestaurants, the Inlet Theatre, boutiques, grocery and specialty stores as well as one of the most invviting libraries in teh Lower Mainland - check out the Fireside Reading Room.

Additionally, Port Moody has been honoured with two International Awards for Liveable Communities. In October 2004 Port Moody was voted teh Silver Award winner and placed third in their populations category at this prestigious UN sponsored international award. More impressive was their win in teh Planning for the Future category. Port Moody camein first overall, beating out cities such as Seattle, Honolulu, Prague and Westminster.

Port Moody was originally the Pacific terminus for the transcontinental railroad and evidence of its industrial past are still apparent. This can be seen in teh lovingly restored Craftsmen homes and at the Port Moody Station Museum, which includes the original trains station and the Venosta, a restored 1920's railcar. It also boasts one of the last Company towns - the Ioco Townsite.

The biggest draw to Port Moody is, of course, access to the oacean and all the adventures that go with this. Kayaaking, sailing, canoeing, boating, seal watching, nature hiking and most recently seaside dining at the Boathouse Restaurant.
